# Citrea USD (ctUSD)

**Peg:** US Dollar

**Backing:** Real-World Asset Backed

**Governance:** Centralized (CeFi)

**Status:** active

## Overview

ctUSD is Citrea's native dollar issued by MoonPay on M0; T-bill backed and fiat-onramp wide, but tiny on a brand-new BTC ZK-rollup. ctUSD is the native stablecoin for Citrea, the first Bitcoin ZK-rollup, issued by MoonPay and powered by M0's T-bill infrastructure — the same bankruptcy-remote SPVs, the same on-chain Validator {{term:attestation}}attestations{{/term}}, the same short-term {{term:treasury}}Treasury{{/term}} backing that now underwrites half a dozen branded dollars across the ecosystem. At roughly $1 million in circulation on a single chain that most DeFi users have never heard of, ctUSD's value proposition is less about the dollar and more about the distribution: MoonPay's 30 million verified users can buy in via Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal across 49 U.S. states and 160+ countries, making the on-ramp wider than the destination chain's current user base. The Founders Fund and Galaxy Digital backing lends the kind of institutional credibility that typically accompanies products ten times this size, while Citrea's Bitcoin-secured ZK-rollup architecture means ctUSD settles on the most decentralized base layer in existence — even if the stablecoin itself is as centralized as every other M0 derivative. The bet is straightforward: Bitcoin needs a native, compliant dollar to unlock DeFi beyond wrapped-BTC vaults, and MoonPay's fiat rails plus M0's reserve plumbing make ctUSD the path of least resistance for that thesis. Reserves are an {{term:rwa}}RWA{{/term}} short-Treasury fund and {{term:redemption}}redemption{{/term}} runs through MoonPay's fiat rails.

## Collateral

Short-term U.S. Treasury bills and cash, held for the benefit of token holders via M0 Protocol's bankruptcy-remote SPV structure; issued by MoonPay under U.S. Money Transmitter Licenses across 49 states (excl. New York)
