## Overview

GBPe is Monerium's licensed-EMI British pound e-money, with {{term:redemption}}redemption{{/term}} through regulated bank-transfer rails on permitted EMI reserve assets. Monerium GBPe extends the Monerium e-money model to British pounds across several EVM chains. Pharos uses the official Monerium token API addresses where they diverge from older CoinGecko metadata and treats redemption as regulated bank-transfer e-money rails backed by safeguarded GBP funds in regulated {{term:custody}}custody{{/term}}.

## Peg Mechanism

Mint-and-burn through Monerium after onboarding/KYC: GBPe is issued when users deposit GBP through supported bank rails and burned when redeemed back to a bank account.
