## Overview

Gate USD is Gate's {{term:yield-bearing}}yield-bearing{{/term}} dollar minted 1:1 from USDT/USDC deposits, backed by 70% {{term:treasury}}T-bills{{/term}} and 25% stablecoins with 5% opaque CEX-managed strategies. Gate USD functions less as a stablecoin and more as a yield certificate: users deposit USDT or USDC on Gate, receive GUSD, and reclaim principal plus interest at {{term:redemption}}redemption{{/term}}. The reserve is 70% short-term Treasuries and 25% stablecoin deposits, but that final 5% in undisclosed CEX-managed yield strategies is the opacity that drags the safety grade to C. At $158M circulating from the Cayman Islands with exactly one DEX pool (HHI of 1.0 — maximum possible concentration), the on-chain exit route is effectively decorative. Nine depeg events with a tight 171 bps worst deviation suggest the peg mechanism works, but only because almost nobody tries to exit through DeFi. The 65-rated offchain redemption via Gate's own platform means your exit depends entirely on the exchange remaining operational and willing.
