## Overview

GUSD is Gemini Trust's NYDFS-chartered dollar redeemable 1:1 against State Street/Western Alliance cash and short {{term:treasury}}T-bills{{/term}} — pristine compliance, almost no users. Gemini Dollar's reserve is impeccable: 62% T-bills and 38% cash at State Street and Western Alliance Bank, NYDFS trust charter, and zero {{term:redemption}}redemption{{/term}} fees. The problem is that nobody uses it, and that gap now drags the overall safety grade down to B- — the spotless backing simply cannot offset a market that won't trade the thing. At $44M circulating — down from a peak well above $300M — GUSD has become a regulatory trophy collecting dust, with a D liquidity grade that makes on-chain exit a theoretical exercise. Its hundreds of brief price blips are the signature of an asset so thinly traded that any flow nudges the quote, with the sharpest excursions skewing negative even as the peg recovers each time. Gemini built the compliance-first stablecoin that regulators asked for, and the market responded with a collective shrug.
