Klarna — the Swedish fintech with 114 million customers and $112B in annual GMV — is building a stablecoin via Stripe's Bridge infrastructure on the Tempo L1 (backed by a $500M Stripe/Paradigm raise). The initial use case is mundane by crypto standards but massive by payments standards: reducing Klarna's own cross-border settlement costs before expanding to consumer and merchant flows. Tempo testnet has been live since November 2025, though no official ticker has been disclosed. The interesting dynamic is that Klarna doesn't need external adoption for KlarnaUSD to succeed; its own payment volume is large enough to justify the infrastructure, making external DeFi liquidity a bonus rather than a requirement.
