Full launch status and history
Announced September 1 2026 in a joint press release issued from London and New York: twenty-one financial institutions committed to establish a new jointly owned company in H2 2026, subject to closing conditions, to support the issuance of a stablecoin. The company name will be announced in due course. The group comprises Bank of America, Capital One, Citi, Fidelity Investments, Goldman Sachs, PNC Financial Services, Scotiabank, TD Bank Group, Wells Fargo, and WisdomTree (North America); Banco Santander, BBVA, Commerzbank, Credit Agricole, Deutsche Bank, Lloyds Banking Group, Cooperatieve Rabobank U.A., and UBS (Europe); MUFG Bank (East Asia); Sirius International Holding (Middle East); and Standard Bank (Africa). The initial focus is a USD-denominated stablecoin, with a longer-term ambition to expand into additional G7 currencies and a EUR offering as a priority, and the group aims for its stablecoin solution to go to market in the first half of 2027. The initiative follows an October 2025 announcement in which an initial group of ten banks explored a 1:1 reserve-backed form of digital money on public blockchains, and it intends to be GENIUS Act and MiCA-compliant, as applicable. No company name, ticker, chain, contracts, reserve composition, custodian, or attestation arrangement has been announced.

Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Santander, UBS, MUFG Bank and fourteen other institutions committed to establish a new company in H2 2026, subject to closing conditions, to support issuance of a stablecoin, with an initial focus on a USD-denominated offering, a EUR offering as the next priority, and market entry targeted for the first half of 2027. The initiative intends GENIUS Act and MiCA compliance, as applicable, and follows an October 2025 exploration by an initial group of ten banks.

On September 1 2026 twenty-one financial institutions led by Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Santander, and UBS announced they will found a joint company, name to be announced, to issue a dollar stablecoin spanning wholesale, institutional, and retail payments, with a euro token as the next priority. The company is to be established in H2 2026, subject to closing conditions, with market entry targeted for H1 2027 and GENIUS Act and MiCA compliance intended where applicable. The commitment extends exploration that began with ten banks in October 2025 around a 1:1 reserve-backed digital money for public blockchains. Everything Pharos measures is still absent: no company name, ticker, chain, contracts, reserve composition, custodian, or attestation. Until those land, this entry records intent by named institutions rather than a measurable issuer.
